LOCATION: Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colorado.  Early evening in October.
ABOUT THE MOMENT: Slight overexposure removes the brown tones of the sand, allowing the deep blue of the sky to define the color of the shadows and giving this scene its satiny appearance.  A fairly long hike through the dunes was required to get to an area without footprints.
